Power and arrogance are often expressed on a body language level and with short verbal attacks. In those situations, we often react helpless and perplexed.
In order to better recognize and understand negotiation processes on bodily level, we look at some real-life case studies. Among them, the incident known as #Sofagate, when EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was relegated to the sofa during a state visit to Turkey, while her colleague Charles Michel took a seat next to Turkish leader Erdoğan.
We use this example to take a practical look at what the options for action are in such situations.
The goal is to overcome the perpetrator-victim perspective and to gain a greater scope of action in difficult situations – especially in male-dominated contexts.
